* Council endorses ACTION 2050

Toowoomba Regional Council has endorsed the "ACTION 2050" Community Planning Project as recommended by the Local Transition Committee. ACTION 2050 will integrate the current our Toowoomba towards 2050 project for Toowoomba City, the Clifton Futures Project and commence delivery of a new component, "towards 2050" across the regional council area.

The final draft TOOWOOMBA 2050 Community Plan has been received by Council, allowing the our Toowoomba towards 2050 project to be finalised and implemented as part of the ACTION 2050 project.

Toowoomba Regional Council acknowledged that the draft plan is a valid expression of the community aspiration, for Toowoomba City.

To facilitate completion of the Community Action Plans, Council will be undertaking a number of processes to identify community action priorities. Stakeholder consultation will re-commence in mid-2008 to assist in determining these priorities.

Future opportunities exist for individuals or groups to be involved in undertaking community plan actions.

* An official handover of the final draft TOOWOOMBA 2050 Community Plan was made to the Interim Chief Executive Officer of the new Toowoomba Regional Council, on 25 February 2008.

* At its meeting held on 26 February 2008, Toowoomba City Council received a copy of the final draft TOOWOOMBA 2050 Community Plan, for the purposes of referral to the Toowoomba Regional Council. Council also acknowledged "that the draft plan is a valid expression of community aspirations for Toowoomba City".

* The 2050 Youth "Words Into Action" Conference was held on 25 February 2008. View the TOOWOOMBA 2050 Youth Website for more information.

* At its meeting held on Monday 17 December 2007, the Local Transition Committee for the new Toowoomba Regional Council endorsed the regional "towards 2050" Community Planning Project and associated community planning activities.

* Minister for Communities comments on the TOOWOOMBA 2050 process – Correspondence was received from the Queensland Government Minister for Communities, “…I applaud Toowoomba City Council for undertaking this innovative and visionary planning process to inform the development of the city into the future. The draft community plan provides a clear and considered response to the priority concerns of residents identified during your extensive community engagement process…”.

* TOOWOOMBA 2050 Project Wins Award - The Planning Institute of Australia (Queensland Division) Awards for Planning Excellence 2007, presented the TOOWOOMBA 2050 project with a merit award in the Social and Community Based Planning category. The award recognised the work of the initial community engagement phase of the TOOWOOMBA 2050 project. Read more ...

* On Friday 10 August 2007, the Queensland State Government passed legislation that incorporated recommendations from the Local Government Reform Commission, to merge Toowoomba City Council with the shires of Cambooya, Clifton, Crows Nest, Jondaryan, Pittsworth, Millmerran, and Pittsworth, to form the new Toowoomba Regional Council. Logo Rationale

The TOOWOOMBA 2050 project logo is based on a stylised leaf reflecting our "Garden City" image. To some it may appear as an eye looking towards the future. A bar chart is shown on the leaf representing growth over time.

The leaf colours represent diversity within our city and at the same time, our city's four unique seasons. They have also been used to differentiate the five project themes (development, community, environment, infrastructure and governance).

The modern font creates a futuristic feel while the reflection of the number '2050' symbolises Toowoomba's proud history on which we build.
